It’s time for Giro d’Italia U23 for Team Colpack. It’s one of the most important international events of the season, a moment of confrontation between the best young talents of world cycling. The program includes 10 stages: it will be a very challenging Giro, an ITT prologue and nine stages with a day of rest. Four expected uphill finish. The route touches 5 regions. 29 teams are starting, including 13 foreign teams from 10 different countries.
Team Colpack lined up with: Andrea Bagioli, Davide Baldaccini, Davide Botta, Alessandro Covi, Jakob Dorigoni and Giulio Masotto.
“We will try to give our best for this Giro d’Italia which is one of the most important events of the year. The boys have prepared well, we are confident and we will live this experience day by day. It will not be easy, nine days of battle await us where we must always be 100% with a very demanding route”, commented sports director Gianluca Valoti.
During the Giro d’Italia U23 Jakob Dorigoni is riding the Cinelli Superstar Disc frame, assembled with a Shimano Ultegra Di2 groupset and Vision Metron 40 Disc wheels.
Massimo Morganti, Italy Sales and Racing Manager, explains: “Coming from cyclocros, Dorigoni is used to disc brakes and asked us to try them on the road and we decide to do that in the most important race of the year.”
Dorigoni commented: “I’m super excited to try the Superstar Disc on the road. I’m very familiar with thuis kind of brakes and i know that if you use them properly you gain a lot. There is plenty of technical descents in this Giro and the new disc frame makes me more confident.”
In the Nocturne of Brugnera came the first seasonal victory of the young Colombian talent Nicolas Gomez who won the Memorial Denis Zanette Memorial – Daniele Del Ben.
The Team Colpack’s rider, in his first year in the category U23, after a series of placings managed to capture his first affirmation in Colpack jersey with a superb sprint that didn’t leave any way out for his opponents.
The protagonists of the evening were also the trio consisting of Filippo Rocchetti (Team Colpack), Samuele Carpene and Matteo Zurlowho animated the most important breakway. The three fugitives reached an advantage of one minute on the group, before being reabsorbed five laps from the end.
Great final fight between sprinter team and the winner was the Colpack train with a superlative Gomez.
After last Saturday’s success, Team Colpack was still racing in Brugnera at Memorial Gianni Biz, with another superb performance by the Colombian Nicolas Gomez who got a solid second place.
