Cinelli and Columbus set up the magnificent ‘Steel Is’ show with the collaboration of the Vigorelli Velodrome Committee. From September 14 to 20 at Antonio Colombo Gallery in downtown Milan.
The show has been a great and inspirational sum, marking the inseparable bond and loyalty between the historical Vigorelli woods and steel, the soul of cycling. The exhibition leads through a deep experience of a journey among handcrafting, design, sport and speed.
As the extraordinary ‘Con le Mie Mani’, the show that collects, for the first time in the history of cycling some of  the most important Italian framebuilders loaned us files and meaningful tools, with a little story. Or the welding mask used by Dario Pegoretti himself. Or the three Laser model (Nostra, Chrono and America), the most innovative bicycle ever, winner of the Compasso d’Oro design prize (1991) and more than 30 gold medals in the 80s between Olympic Games and World Championships.

The expo continues with the rebuilding of a tipical Milanese office in the 40s, with rational forniture made with Columbus steel tubes and designed inside the Bauhaus school and a majestic stayer motorcycle from the 30s (thanks to the Dagnoni family) custom made with a part of an Anzani aircraft engine.

Moreover, to enlight the bond between steel, design and art, there are three Cinelli bicycles made by artists  (Supercorsa, Studio Alchimia, 1984; Supercorsa Pista, Barry Mc Gee, 2008; Nemo TIG, Guarnaccia, 2017) from Mr. Colombo’s private collection.

The Vigorelli Velodrome Committee very generously provided photos and some wood batons on the first track rebuilding after 1946. For the first time in history, the Vigorelli woods were shown next to a bike that gained the Hour Record upon them, Fausto Coppi’s 1942 Legnano.

On the walls, painting made for the show by the artists of Anotnio Colombo’s Gallery, like Olinsky, Marco Cingolani, Fiorino and Giacon, who did an amazing live painting performance during the opening.

Steel Is was a part of Milano Bike City, a two weeks program celebrating the bike promoted by Milano Municipality with hundres of events, speeches, shows, etc. The show was a great success, with more than 400 people attending the opening.
